The homes in the Tākaka Couhousing Neighbourhood each has its own bathroom and kitchen, and access to a private garden and collective growing spaces.

Cohousing, a relatively new concept in New Zealand, is based on concepts of community-building, sustainability and sharing resources. Other developments exist in Auckland and Dunedin.
