Tākaka Cohousing is getting ready to enter a new phase

Based on the success of the first neighbourhood, we are now ready to develop Neighbourhood 2 on Meihana Street, with residents moving into new homes in 2026.

This will be a smaller development, with 18 homes as opposed to the initial 34, with the option of selecting 2 or 3 bedroom homes. These are beautiful, healthy spaces built using sustainable materials. As with the first neighbourhood, living in cohousing means that along with your home and private space, you also have access to shared common gardens, a communal building, and a storage space. By sharing these spaces, you have more opportunity to interact with your neighbours, fostering connection and wellbeing.

We are also excited to offer stand-alone homes on Meihana Street, alongside the second cohousing neighbourhood, for those who are still interested in what we are creating but not wanting to share communal spaces. These homes will be built by Signature Homes to the same sustainability standards as the cohousing neighbourhoods.

Later, a third cohousing neighbourhood is planned for Rototai Road, which we intend to complete in 2027. We also have plans to develop parkland between the neighbourhoods that will be open to all Golden Bay residents, which is governed by Te Hapori Hauora, Mōhua Community Land Trust. This will preserve a slice of nature in a residential setting that honours and cares for the whenua for future generations.

We have decided not to develop the planned community building on the corner of Meihana Street and Rototai Road at this time due to increased development costs, but this is where you will find our new sales office.

If you are interested, you can register for one of our online presentations or a neighbourhood tour via our website: www.takakacohousing.co.nz.
